India Launches a New Scheme to Curb Female Feticide

This week, the women’s and children’s ministry announced the latest plan to reverse the trend. The premise: Pay a family to raise a girl.

Give birth to a daughter, and the family gets cash. Vaccinate her, more cash. Send her to school, feed her, delay her marriage, cash payment for each step.

The staggered payments will be handed out in seven, mostly rural states, beginning at $400 and extending up to an additional $2,500. They will “force the families to look upon the girl as an asset rather than a liability, since her very existence would lead to cash inflow to the family,” Renuka Chowdhury, women and children development minister, told reporters earlier this week.

Sounds good!! But ..

Why don’t anyone ask Renuka how much does she spend for the poor girls working aside road from her salary? Everyone can make merry from other’s money or Govt money…can she fund half of your salary to women development. If women can’t help the poor women then how can complete women empowerment be done. How many women are ready to help poor women from Rajasthan desert or mining area of Chattisgargh from their own pocket. Applying make-up in face wearing some sparkling stones, adding perfume some women are talking about women liberty...but from the fund of government…not any rupee from their purse….why? No No. don’t tell that there are no rich women in India…or women have to look after her kids…don’t lie to us. Lakhs of rich, self-dependent women are taking about for women empowerment, they waste their money for facial, for cosmetics for spa, for hair treatment, pedicure, manicure etc but reluctant to spend money for poor girls who have not the primary education.

Nice write up. Women empowerment for these self proclaimed women cause champions is a shop for selling women rights.

Thanks Virag,
But this simple and important thing is not understandable to women.

Moreover, that govt. money is also 82% the money from the taxes of the Men. But still there’s not a penny spent towards the well being of the men.

We the Men have to pay the taxes to the govt. for women empowerment, and the remaining money is spent in the beauty ’development’ of the women in our lives.

Jai ho Indian Men ki!

thanks for the addition.
Paying tax in men’s duty and wasting money is women’s right...isn’t it?

Yes that’s right...
There’s surely no such concept called Women’s Duties and Men’s Rights!

The first part of your post had nice information which spreads some hope for the girl's (mainly rural). But sorry to say, the second part of the story is totally immature and seems its written by some young boy. And then you are joined by some few immature men.

Anyways! just answer me one thing, if You (men) were responsible enough to handle the families with love, affection, care...women would not have been in such situation today. MEN comes drunk home in the evening and thinks its their birth right to beat women, they just pay her small amount of money(some don't even do that) to take care of the family and raise the children. They don't consider women as humans and treat them the way they feel like.

Imagine yourself in a condition when your father beats the sh-- out of you without any fault of your's. Burn your body with cigarette marks and what not...

If you, MEN were sensible enough, women never would have asked for the empowerment.

NOW, the 2nd point comes of women spending money on themselves and not helping the poor women. Tell me something, how many rich men spend money for the help of poor men? Indian cricketer's wear jeans worth Rs35000, how many of them give half of the amount earned to the poor of their states or neighbor.

Its easy to brag on the blogs, tell me how much do you donate for the poor men or boy working in the nearby dhaba?

Please Grow Up!

can you give me the name of the husbands who come to house drunk and beat their wives? Are they from your family. In my family no one beat wife.
Those who are suffering from poverty and in the muslim community where women are treated miserably.
But if you go by doner’s list anytime whether it is flood or earthquake...men always lead from the front.

I did donate my old books, dvd player, clothes, bags to the poor lads in neighbourhood. I do whatever I can in service or money.
But I never snatch anyone’s purse or moneybag to help poor like your Renuka aunty!!
Indira Ganghi became Prime minister long ago...was there any womanempowerment bill there?...was there any 498a or DV act to empower woman?...those who can rise , rise from whatever they face. Those who are coward like you , crying for woman empowerment.
